Final Exam

4. My transformative photo was this one:

Previously I did not try to capture lots of motion in my photos, and thought that I should take the photo to stop the motion in the middle instead. Now I notice that photos can be used to capture the moment in the motion. This has helped me in my last three projects, which were about dance, because I could find ways to convey the aspect of motion. (Also, I noticed that outstretched arms give the (human) subject a more prominent presence in the picture, especially since the photo isn't always zoomed in.)

5. Shape vs Form
Shape
Form
The above are my blog posts about the Elements of Art: Shape and Form. While the two may seem similar, they are quite different. Shape is about the two dimensional appearance of the object. The photographer puts emphasis on the outline of the object. In contrast, form is about the three dimensional appearance of the object. Although the three dimensions are projected into two dimensions in a photograph, the photographer can still place emphasis on the form by using things like shadows to indicate the form of the object.

6. Pattern vs Repetition
Pattern
Repetition
Repetition involves the repetition of things like objects in the photo. This creates some level of uniformity. Pattern involves regularity in the photo, and is generally two dimensional. This can also serve to create uniformity.

An inspiring page is this one: http://www.loisgreenfield.com/about-lois/index.html

8.
Project 1: Ad
Project 2: Dance
Project 3: More Dance (final project)
The above are my links to the three projects. My best project was my final project. On the whole, these photos had the best lighting and a better set, with the black backgrounds which could bring attention to the subject more. More specifically, my best photo from the project was this one.

I learned a lot during these projects, like when to use black/white for your best advantage. A lot of my photos had bad colors, so I learned to edit the colors in Photoshop if needed, or convert to greyscale if I couldn't do much about them. My best photo (from the link above) was one of the photos that was much too saturated, and I wasn't sure if I could work with it when the colors made the light seem bad. But working with Photoshop for some time got me to the final product, which I liked a lot. I learned to not worry too much over the colors if I didn't have enough time to keep retaking photos.

I also learned to use anything we had as props, like the bunches of (fake) flowers in the drama room, and the large wooden frame they had. I saw lots of opportunities in even the most random things in the room ( like the camera bag lying on the floor of the stage in my best photo, which turned out to balance the dark and the light quite well).

Student Website Reviews

Deborah Chen (period 1):
Rockman
I liked this photo the best because of the deep green and blue shades that make the land look very healthy.

Mustafa Ahmed (period 2):
oranges
I think this photo of the oranges is the best because the light made the texture of the orange stand out and seem juicy. I also enjoyed seeing the slight unevenness of the rind.

Jason Stiltz (period 3):
sunset
I liked the photo of the cabin in the sunset the best. The lens flare and the color of the sky looks amazing and the grey-ish horizon balances the picture quite well.
